MUSICAL BIOGRAPHY

In 2009 Maija Tutova earned a bachelor's degree in academic singing at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music in the class of prof. Anita Garanča, and in 2011 master degree in early music singing in the class of Sergejs Jegers. From 2011 till 2012 Maija has been studying in the Erasmus program in early music singing at the University of Music and Theatre Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy in Leipzig in the class of prof. Gundula Anders.  

During her studies Maija consequently improved her vocal mastery with prof. Annika Ollinkari (Finland) and prof. Ellison Pearce (Great Britain). In 2010 Maija Tutova participated in the Early Music Summer School in Amsterdam, where she perfected her vocal skills and the knowledge in early music interpretation with one of the famous early music singers Johan Zomer. In 2011 Maija participated in the opera project Biennale in Helsinki (Finland). She also took part in the opera studio Figaro during her studies at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music.

Since 2010 Maija participated as a soloist in concerts and opera projects with the Latvian baroque orchestra Collegium Musicum Riga and took part in Early Music Festivals in Latvia.

In 2012 Maija enrolled at the Conservatory Santa Cecilia in Rome where she improved her vocal skills and musical knowledge with prof. Anna-Maria Ferrante.

After studies at the Conservatory Santa Cecilia with a focus in German and Austrian classical vocal repertoire Maija began cooperating with one of the greatest singers and vocal teachers Krisztina Laki (Bremen, Germany), and took part in Ms. Laki international master-classes in Dusseldorf.

 

 


PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Since 2004 Maija participated in concerts in Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Slovakia, Norway, Italy and Germany.

Her first operatic role was role of Zerlina from opera Don Giovanni by W. A. Mozart in the opera studio Figaro (2009).

The most significiant projects with the Latvian baroque orchestra Collegium Musicum Riga:

M. Corette, Laudate Dominum, soprano;

G. F. Handel, Acis and Galatea, role of Galatea, (Krakow opera);

J. Peri, L’Orfeo, role of Dafne;

G. F. Handel, Messiah, soprano;

In the summer of 2018 Maija participated in the Music to Go project in Germany, where she sang the role of Valencienne in Fr. Lehár’s operette Die lustige Witwe.

In May 2021, Maija sang the soprano part in the Missa Brevissima by J. E. Eberlin at the Basilica of St. Aposteln in Cologne.

In 2023, also as part of the Music to Go project, Maija took part in a production of J. Strauss' operetta Die Fledermaus, in which she performed the role of Adele. Also in 2024, with the same team, she took part in a production of Emm.Kálmán's operetta Die Csárdásfürstin, in which she performed the role of Stasi.


VOCAL COACHING

Since 2011 Maija has been cooperated with the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music as a guest vocal teacher for Early Music department.

From 2018 till 2021 Maija had been a vocal teacher in the Academy of Culture in the Jewish society and in the music school Arioso in Dusseldorf, where had been teaching classical and modern vocal music as well.

Since 2009 Maija has a private practise in vocal coaching.
